We will begin by installing the program that will get you started on RTTY. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, clicking on the download link will bring up the standard download screen.
When the download screen appears, you will have the option to either Run or Save. Once this folder is created, you may begin the installation. Windows XP users can use the default location which will be created automatically in the installation process. Click on this link. You should then see the installation program begin downloading to your computer.
Best RTTY software for Windows 10?
Wait until it completes. When the file download is complete, you will see the screen below. After the file has downloaded, the Setup window will appear. The next two screens not shown here are for the License Agreement and an Information screen.
MMTTY is freeware, so agree to the terms in the first screen and read the information on the Information screen, then click Next. A Quick Launch icon can also be created if desired.
Read through the Information screen. There is good information here, although it is not critical to the installation. MMTTY will start and a dialog box will display where you will enter your callsign. This completes the installation process. The working area of the program is divided into several windows, the sizes of which can be changed by the user by dragging the borders. In the top window the current spectrum of a signal blue line and a peak detector of spectral components green line are shown.
The vertical red lines in this window show the working frequencies of the RX filters. In most modes you see two vertical line; in PSK modes - only one. To change the center frequency, click on the desired frequency probably between the peaks. In MultiFSK mode mouse click defines lowest radio frequency, not center one. The short thick black lines show TX frequencies. To change the TX frequency, click on the desired frequency by right mouse button or the left mouse button with "Ctrl" key pressed.
Ruler under top window shows frequencies of sound spectrum. RX and TX frequencies and shifts are also shown in the status line. You can use keyboard and screen buttons located below spectrogram ruler for fine tuning. These screen buttons can be used for TX frequency changing also.
TX sound frequency is changed if right mouse button is used or "Ctrl" key is pressed. The logarithmic scale is usually more convenient, but it uses more computer resources. The " SQL " button turns squelch on. The number to the left of the "SQL" button determines the squelch threshold.
When squelch is switched on, the horizontal red line shows the squelch threshold. The " Zoom " menu and " Alt-1 " To move a visible part of spectrogram or waterfall to left or right drag it by mouse with Alt key down.
A phase indicator can be used for fine tuning in PSK modes. In ideal conditions you see immovable or slow rotating line there. Faster rotation means more frequency error. The third from top window shows an oscillogram of the decoded signal. The received text is displayed on the second from top window.
When the RX buffer has grown to about 20kB, part of the data is moved into an invisible buffer. The " AFC " button auto frequency control adjusts the long red lines working frequencies to the closest peak frequencies. The first number is local deviation in hertzs, i. Second number is global deviation in hertzs, i. User-selected frequencies are shown at spectrogram by short red lines. But this action is not made after click on the ruler under spectrogram. In this mode transceiver radio frequency is changed to consist RX frequency to TX frequency.
Take to attention that not every transceiver has programmable RIT. In this case auto-tuning by RIT is impossible. This option is useful if transceiver can not use narrow-band filters in SSB mode. The " Use Rig " box is used to select a rig controlled by Omni-Rig. The " TX " button switches the transmitter on. The program transmits characters entered into the bottom window.
During transmission, sent symbols change their color and are copied into the Sent window second from bottom. Transmitted text is deleted from the Input window after the "Line Feed" character is transmitted.EXE and 2Tone. The View menu is where you can change the way the tuning indicators work and what they look like.
It may be beneficial to experiment with various settings to see what works for you. Here are some recommended settings to start with:. Please note, the parameters in the Setup screens may not be exactly as what is shown here. Select Setup under the Options menu as shown here. Demodulator tab screen — The only thing you may consider changing here is to enable Dual Peak Filter by clicking the check box as shown.
The filtering is performed to the receive signal after the display so you will not see any change in the display like you do if you enable a Twin Peak Filter in a radio.
None of the other options need to change. More importantly is Reverse rotation of the XY Scope. What this does, when enabled, is to cause the signal shown in the XY scope to rotate in the same direction as your VFO when you tune in a signal.
Misc tab screen — This is another important screen. The most important part of this screen is the Tx Port setting. Again, refer to the FSK page for more information. Also on the Misc tab screen, in the lower left hand corner, is the Clock setting.
Change the Clock to show the Hz option instead of Hz. You can leave the rest of the settings as they are shown here. SoundCard tab screen — This is where you choose which sound card will be used for receive and transmit. Choose which sound card you will be using. When finished with all your selections in all screens, press OK. Details of Profiles will not be covered here.
Profiles are sets of operating parameters for decoding RTTY signals. They are only for receive and have nothing to do with RTTY transmission. This is used for copying standard amateur radio RTTY signals on HF and is the profile that should be used nearly all of the time. Use different profiles for different type of signals as described by the profile name. Notice there are no check marks next to any of the profile names.
When you change profiles, you will have to remember which profile was selected. View Menu The View menu is where you can change the way the tuning indicators work and what they look like. Decode tab screen — No changes are needed here. If you're not sure, here's how to check. If the Launcher is already installed on your PC, you should determine if a newer version is available and, if so, upgrade it. By default, each DXLab application will be installed in a subfolder of. The Launcher will ensure that each DXLab application is installed in a separate folder, e. The Launcher will then initiate a Setup program that registers the application and its components, prompting you for additional installation decisions such as the creation of start menu entries, desktop shortcuts, and the installation of optional files like country maps or audio announcements.
A step-by-step guide is available. If you installed a DXLab application at some time in the past but haven't been installing its upgrades, you can obtain all subsequent defect repairs and enhancements by upgrading to the latest release, as described above. All DXLab applications are produced using a software engineering process known as iterative development, characterized by frequent releases.
To facilitate this process, two kinds of releases are provided: a full release containing all software and documentation components, and an incremental release that contains only those components that have changed since the most recent full release. A full release is installed once; from then on, only lighter-weight incremental releases need be installed. It is not necessary to install every incremental release of an application; installing the most recent incremental release is sufficient to bring an application up-to-date, no matter how many incremental releases may have previously been skipped.
When the DXLab Launcher installs a new DXLab applicationit first installs the application's most recent full release; if a later incremental release is available, the Launcher automatically performs the upgrade. Subsequently, the Launcher can report the availability of new incremental releases and, at your direction, download and install them. If you installed a DXLab application at some time in the past but haven't kept up with subsequent releases, directing the Launcher to upgrade that application will obtain all subsequent defect repairs and enhancements.
You can configure the Launcher to automatically check for new application releases at startup and daily thereafter ; if releases are available that are newer than what you have installed, a "new app upgrades" message will appear on the Launcher's Main window, as shown above. On the Launcher's Configuration window, available DXLab application releases that are newer than what's installed on your PC are highlighted in red font.
Double-clicking any version number will display the Release Notes for that version. This reflector plays a major role in driving the development of DXLab -- suggestions are refined, alternatives are considered, and releases are critiqued; the result is a powerful flow of ideas whose implementation benefits all participants.
At your option, messages posted to the reflector can be delivered via email -- either individually, or in a daily digest. Release Notes, Defect Logs, and Enhancement Logs are helpful in identifying changes made over time; links to this information for each DXLab application are provided in the Available Releases table below.
DXLab applications can be manually downloaded via hyperlinks in the table below, or via any of several worldwide distribution sites ; if you do this instead of directing the Launcher to install and upgrade a DXLab application you seek.
